Please note: This is all speculative. The person who dropped these on Reddit is not 100% confirmed to be true, but they look legit. There’s a discussion that these were just “made as a meme,” but we’re curious to see how accurate they wind up being. According to a contact, they have a solid history of leaks, so we’ll have to see where it goes. A Reddit thread has come up discussing a trio of cards that may be legit MTG Arena Kaldheim spoilers. If these are true, they range from “fascinating cards with upside” to “Good lord, did Wizards not learn their lesson from last time?!”

Mtg arena: state of the game - january 2021 Our upcoming game update in January brings the highly anticipated Viking-inspired plane of Kaldheim to MTG Arena, and it brings MTG Arena to the uncharted realms of pants pockets, couch potatoes, and socially distanced public transit.

So, let’s talk about some potential cards!

The actual poster account only had this one post, so I imagine they are trying to be as careful as possible. The original post we found, linked above, is 13 days ago but came to our desks this morning. If these are true, Modal dual-faced cards will be more than just “Creature/Land.” That prevents the card typing from being stale, and it’s a cool idea anyway.

We’ll start with the card in question: Glimpse of Glory/Patch of Sacrifice. This Modal Dual-Faced Card is a Blue Sorcery/Legendary Artifact. Here’s what the card states:

  • Glimpse of Glory (Sorcery, Blue): Scry X, where X is the number of Legendary Permanents you control.
  • Patch of Sacrifice (Legendary Artifact, Colorless/2?): A legendary artifact (equipment). When it enters the battlefield, choose an opponent. They play with their hand revealed for as long as this artifact remains on the battlefield. Equip (2 colorless): Equipped creature gets +1/+1 and “Tap: Scry 1.”

I like the idea of a Sorcery/Artifact Dual Modal card, but this also makes me think: Are we going to get Legendary Tribal back? It would fit, with as many gods/legendaries as there could/likely will be in Kaldheim, a very much Viking centric setting. The Patch of Sacrifice screams Odin, after all.

Speaking of legendaries, next there’s Skatharvosk, Root-gnawer, which is a clear tribute to Rataoskr. This also brings to light the notion of snow-covered Lands coming back. This is a three-color legendary creature: Elder Squirrel.

  • Skatharvosk, Root-gnawer (Legendary Creature – Elder Squirrel, 1BGR): Sacrifice a Forest: Untap Skatharvosk. It gains indestructible until end of turn. IF that Forest was a snow-covered permanent, Skatharvosk and each snow-creature you control gets +2/+2 until the end of turn. 3/3 Creature.

It’s an interesting choice to sacrifice a Forest (but it makes sense in context), but why isn’t Skathervosk a snow-creature too? It sounds like you could use this as a way to win matches by sacrificing all of your Forests to swing lethal (provided you have Trample). Not a terrible card. It fits the setting, isn’t wildly overpowered, but can be used as a game-winning bomb. You don’t have to Swing with it. You could cast it, sacrifice your snow-covered Forests, and swing to win. Love it as a possibility for the spoilers of Kaldheim in MTG Arena.

Oko, Winter’s Liege is the final card revealed, and here’s where I start to roll my eyes. Did they not learn their lesson with the previous Oko card? This one is pretty ludicrous if you ask me. It comes in with 4 loyalty and does much of what the other did, only on a possibly bigger scale.

  • Oko, Winter’s Liege (Legendary Planeswalker – Oko, 3GU): 4 Baseline Loyalty. +1: Create a 3/3 Green Elk snow creature token. -2: Scry X, where X is the number of snow permanents you control. Draw a card. -7: Gain control of up to X target nonland permanents, where X is the number of snow permanents you control. Each of those permanents that are creatures gain haste.

WHAT?! That’s going to be obnoxious. If these MTG Arena spoilers for Kaldheim are true, I can see players stealing an entire board from a player, other than their lands. You need land destruction to seal their fate. I do not like this card. I do not like this card one bit, and I genuinely hope it’s a fake. Where do you guys stand? Are these real or not? Time will certainly tell.
